Levantine Arabic, the dialect of Beirut, can be understood by speakers of the urban dialect of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Israel. This course covers the major points of phonological interference — crossover of sounds from another language resulting in a “foreign” accent — between Levantine Arabic and English, as well as significant phonological contrasts within the dialect itself.
