Partly modeled after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Baghdad Pact was adopted in 1955 by Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran, as well as the United Kingdom. It was to officially end shortly after a Ba’athist coup in Iraq led to Iraqi withdrawal from the pact.
