1983 mark 150th anniversary of John Keele’s sermon which Newman recognized as the beginning of the Oxford movement. The religious revival which signal, the originating in a particular political challenge to the church of England, was reaching in its effect. The continuity and Catholic identity of Anglicanism was powerfully affirmed sacrament worship was restored to central place in Anglican devotion, religious orders, revived, and both in the mission field, and in the slums, devoted priest labored with new vigor and a new sense of the church. I picked up this book along with the number of others celebrating the Oxford movement in the 1980s when I was at seminary.
