This expansion forms the basis for a new kind of empiricism, better suited to the needs ofscience than the older anthropocentric forms of empiricism. The second part provides a new account of empiricism suitable for contemporary science, whose purpose is to reconcile a modest but selective scientific realism with scientific empiricism – two approaches long opposed to one another.
