Richard Preston, The Hot Zone: A Terrifying True Story. Random House, 1994. ISBN 0-679-43094-5. Copyright page states B98765; thus, 5th printing. Book is in fine condition, never been fully opened or read! Perfect book boards, corners, spine, and jacket. The only flaws are the first owner’s tiny red book plate on inside cover, “Kay Kincade/University of Oklahoma/820 Van Vleet Oval/Norman, OK 73019-0260” and a minute wrinkle at bottom of front cover, as shown in my pictures, which are of the actual book being offered for sale. I obtained this book from Dr. Kincade’s estate in Starkville, MS. A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic “hot” virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their “crashes” into the human race. Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction. Preston’s book was scheduled to be the basis of a movie, but production was superseded by the movie Outbreak (1995), based on a similar concept. The Hot Zone became a mini-series drama starring Julianna Margulies, Topher Grace, Liam Cunningham, James D’Arcy, and Noah Emmerich on National Geographic (2019-2021).
